The AKG C 12 microphone has become somewhat of a legend, as AKG like to call it, over the years and in response to, god only knows how, many requests have released a Vintage Reissue, called the C 12 VR Tube Condenser Microphone which includes the original 6072A vacuum tube used in the C 12.

The ‘legend’ started in 1953 with the release of the C 12 and continued until 1963. Since then it has gone on to become some-what of a collector’s item, with recording engineers snaffling them up anytime they come onto the second hand market. AKG have set about recreating this legend with the C 12 VR, complete with the original 6072A vacuum tube, while integrating nearly 50 years of microphone technology progression, yet maintaining that famed warmth and presence that the C 12 is so revered for.

The historic components that have been carried over include the 6072A vacuum tube and large-diaphragm capsule, while modern touches were limited to a few of the components and particularly its self noise which was redesigned to be up to date with today’s standards.

Features

  • The full list of modern, plus the classic, features includes:
  • Uses the original 6072 vacuum tube
  • Multiple patterns (nine total) remotely controlled with silent switching
  • Classic 1-inch (25 mm) condenser tube performance of the original AKG C 12
  • Internal microphone switching for pre-attenuation of -10, -20 dB and boost of +10 dB to accommodate all studio requirements.
  • Uses the original 1950’s dual diaphragm design for sound that has the same warmth, clarity and presence of the original
  • External (in control unit) two-position bass cut/roll-off
